Extended Council 2010

We, the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady, with a view of passionate hopefulness, met in an Extended Council, to reflect on "The challenges of learning today".

Extended Council 2010

We are seeking to find the right path to improve the learning process at all levels, because the future of the Congregation depends on it.

We have heard the words of the Spirit still at work… A light is leading us along the path and have felt our hearts burn…

This experience enables us to state that:

  • The Spirit is the most important teacher: we need to open ourselves up to His word and allow ourselves to be guided by Him.
  • A learning community is a place full of life, helping to recreate the links that feed our identity and charismatic belonging. This is a school of prayer, a place for dialogue amid diversity, a reminder of the washing of feet every day, a place where there are no strangers, but rather Sisters - a place of forgiveness, joy and hope.
  • A learning community learns to share, love, serve and integrate solitude. It enables missionary experiences, feels jointly responsible for the process of growth and is a place to mature.

We believe that we are all educators and that this is a mission - a vocation. We feel that:

  • The mission of educator is to support, listen, encourage living, foster freedom, and to teach people how to spread their wings and fly.
  • Providing support means helping people of all ages to live through their own process of growing maturity, in order to become a better disciple of Christ every day, progressing along a constant path of conversion.
  • Giving support is to give and receive while recreating life. This route of learning is a lifelong endeavour. We know that cultural exchange requires knowledge, an open mind, respect, dialogue and freedom from prejudice, in the knowledge that all cultures have their own values and counter values.

We seek to trace back our roots to find the DNA of our Congregation's culture. We want to: live, think, feel, organise ourselves, celebrate and share life like the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady.

"Knowing Him and becoming in His image, for life and life in abundance" was the theme for this meeting of inquiring thought and reflection. We want to live the passionate adventure and to delve deeper into the mystery of the Lord. We want to turn our eyes towards Him, to learn what He wants and to bring life and Life in abundance.
