Giofrater - Franciscan youth Missionary of Our Lady

To be where our presence can be useful

Giofrater - Franciscan youth Missionary of Our Lady, was born on April 21, 1996 in Quinta da Azenha, Gondomar - Portugal.

The word Giofrater comes from Gio, abbreviation of Giovane (from Italian, homeland of Saint Francis of Assisi) which means young, and  Frater (Brother in Latin).
Giofrater is a movement of young people and for young people, which goes hand in hand with the Franciscan Missionary of Our Lady Sisters.

With the motto "to be where our presence can be useful", this group promotes the rights of the human person, fraternity in simplicity, respect for  creation and harmony with Mother Nature, always taking as an example Saint Francis of Assisi and guiding life itself, according to the criteria of the Gospel in a vital  adherence to the person of Jesus Christ.

The movement is established in Portugal and Angola. Each country has a Secretariat that plans and promotes activities at the national level involving all groups belonging to the movement.

These meetings, in addition to their essential aspect of Christian formation, strengthen the bonds of friendship with other young people and encourage the sharing of experiences.

This year Giofrater celebrated 25 years of existence in Portugal.

With all the young people and the Sisters who, yesterday and today, continue to give enthusiasm to the movement, while being links of unity and communion, let us raise to God a hymn of praise and thanksgiving.
